“Dawn teaches art from the core of who she is. It’s a wonderfully organic experience and all-encompassing. Whatever the focus, it’s always far more than that. She teaches how to see things from the whole of your experience … and she generously shares hers.” - Rosemary Gardiner (workshop attendee)

Matisse once said; you can tell a great colorist by their black and white drawings. How is drawing important to painting? Where does one leave off, and the other begin? How do I make sense of it all? Why does “conservation of values”matter? Students will deepen their drawing skills with a nod to the painter within and with a specific understanding of structure, value, and composition. Painting problems are often drawing problems, so this workshop is aimed at strengthening both in turn. Be prepared to get messy with charcoal & conte crayon, and more, or bring your preferred drawing medium! Drawing references and demonstrations will be shared, as well as group discussion.
