Susan Burger
architectural birdhouses
A life long Michigander, Sue has been building birdhouses for fun since 1996. Every Spring her garage becomes her workshop. "My saws, paintbrushes, and birdhouses accompany my lawn mower, shovel and rake", she says. Using 100% recycled wood, furniture, mouldings, and architectural hardware salvaged from junk yards and garage sales from Michigan's Upper Peninsula to central Illinois she transforms bits and pieces into one-of-a-kind avian abodes. “I even reuse the old screws and nails”, says Sue. There’s something to be said for hanging on to all those jars of old nuts and bolts. Read more about Sue in her Michigan Blue's Spring 2015 issue, shot on site at the schoolhouse.
