Luck

In creative endeavors luck is a skill. The evolution of your work can never be thoroughly mapped out ahead of time. You have to allow for the suddenly altered landscape, the change in plan, the accidental spark.  Habitually creative people are, in E.B. White’s phrase;  prepared to be lucky. Of course, you have to be present, in the room, to recognize the stroke of luck.  The more you are in the room working, experimenting, banging away at your objective, the more luck has a chance of biting you on the nose.
